AI-powered summaries
Batida uses AI to generate postmortem summaries from incident data. Instead of starting with a blank page, you get a structured draft that you can review, edit, and publish.
How it works
When you generate an AI summary, Batida analyzes the incident's timeline, comments, status changes, and responder actions to produce a complete postmortem draft. The AI covers:
- Timeline -- a chronological summary of key events extracted from the incident activity log.
- Root cause -- an analysis of the most likely cause based on the incident description and responder notes.
- Impact -- a summary of the affected systems, duration, and severity.
- Action items -- suggested follow-up tasks based on patterns in similar incidents.
Generating a summary
- Open a resolved incident and click Create Postmortem.
- Click the Generate with AI button.
- Batida processes the incident data and fills in all sections within a few seconds.
- Review the generated content. Edit anything that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Submit for review when satisfied.
TIP
AI-generated content is a starting point, not a final product. Always review and verify the accuracy of the summary before publishing.
Editing generated content
The AI output is fully editable. You can:
- Add missing details that the AI could not infer from incident data.
- Remove irrelevant or incorrect information.
- Rephrase sections to match your team's tone and terminology.
- Restructure the timeline or root cause section for clarity.
Changes you make are preserved even if you regenerate the summary later. However, regenerating will overwrite sections that have not been manually edited.
Accuracy and limitations
AI summaries are based on the information available in the incident record. The quality of the output depends on how well the incident was documented:
| Factor | Effect on AI quality |
|---|---|
| Detailed timeline | Accurate event summaries |
| Rich comments | Better root cause analysis |
| Minimal notes | Generic or incomplete suggestions |
| Multiple responders | Broader context and fewer blind spots |
WARNING
Do not rely solely on AI-generated summaries for compliance or regulatory postmortems. Always have a human reviewer validate the content.
Disabling AI summaries
Organization administrators can disable AI summaries in Organization settings if your company policy does not allow AI-generated content. When disabled, postmortems must be written manually.
