Maintenance windows
A maintenance window is a scheduled period of planned downtime. Displaying maintenance windows on your status page lets users know in advance when services may be unavailable.
Creating a maintenance window
- Navigate to your status page settings.
- Go to the Maintenance tab.
- Click Schedule Maintenance.
- Fill in the details:
- Title -- a short description of the maintenance (e.g., "Database upgrade").
- Start time -- when the maintenance begins.
- End time -- when the maintenance is expected to end.
- Affected components -- which components will be impacted.
- Message -- additional context for users (optional).
- Click Schedule.
TIP
Schedule maintenance windows at least 48 hours in advance to give users time to prepare. Batida can automatically send notification emails to subscribers when a maintenance window is created.
Maintenance statuses
A maintenance window moves through three states:
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Scheduled | The window has been announced but not yet started |
| In Progress | The maintenance is currently underway |
| Completed | The maintenance has ended and services are restored |
Managing maintenance windows
- Edit -- update the start time, end time, affected components, or message before the window begins.
- Cancel -- remove a scheduled maintenance window. Subscribers receive a cancellation notification.
- Extend -- if the maintenance is taking longer than expected, extend the end time. Batida notifies subscribers of the change.
Component behavior during maintenance
Components affected by a maintenance window show a special "Under Maintenance" status on the status page. This is distinct from an outage -- it communicates that the downtime is planned.
During the maintenance window:
- Affected components display the maintenance message.
- The status page header shows "Planned Maintenance in Progress."
- Subscribers who opted in receive a notification when the maintenance starts and ends.
Automatic status restoration
When a maintenance window reaches its scheduled end time and is marked as completed, all affected components are automatically restored to their previous status. If the maintenance is still ongoing, you can extend the window to prevent premature restoration.
WARNING
If a genuine incident occurs during a maintenance window, declare the incident separately. The incident status will override the maintenance status on the status page.
